McSpadden Hourglass

This is a middle period instrument from probably the best known and most reliable larger scale dulcimer makers in the world – solid spruce top, solid walnut sides and high quality laminated walnut back.  This has a neat, flat walnut head and good quality Grover guitar tuners; four distinctive McSpadden-style heart soundholes; walnut two piece, hollow fingerboard; composite nut and bridge; zero fret.   Overall length 35¾”, upper bout 5½”, lower bout 6⅞”, height 1¾”, FBW 1⅜”, VSL 28½” (medium/long scale).  Original 6½ fret.

This early classic looks superb, with the authentic hourglass-and-hearts dulcimer shape.  Good action and intonation with a very lively, responsive sound, especially clear on the melody strings.  This particular instrument has the crispness and separation which the spruce top imparts.  In excellent condition, with just two small, barely noticeable nicks on each top edge.
